ABOUT Habersham County Pickleball Club, Inc.

Our story began in the fall of 2015, when the first pickleball games were played in Habersham County — and from Day One, it was apparent that this sport (new to most of us), was much fun, good exercise, challenging, a great social venue and addictive.  And as our numbers began to grow and we learned new skills, we became even more involved.

Since 2018, we’ve become something of a powerhouse: our players and teams consistently compete and win medals in men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. If you have a competitive nature, you quickly become addicted to tournament play and enjoy the competition, as well as traveling to play at different locations and meeting new pickleball fans.

We welcome all skill levels, including social play—both for those who simply enjoy the physical and social activity and those who are more competitive—regardless of skill level.

We are fortunate to have two Instructors available for individual or small group lessons. See the Contact Tab for their information. In addition, Christine Tekippe, IPTPA Certified Instructor provides a Free Beginner Class monthly.

Peggy Fortson serves as the USA Ambassador for Habersham County and is also the current President of the Club and a Certified IPTPA Instructor. Peggy spearheaded the campaign with the County Commissioners to secure dedicated outdoor pickleball courts, an effort which began in May of 2021 and culminated with the winning vote in February 2022. The court project was then completed in July of 2022.

While the Dedicated Court project campaign was in full swing, Peggy also led the way to the Club gaining official status as a Domestic Non-Profit Corporation in October 2021. Today the Club has 8 Board members: Peggy, Sarah Shearouse, Mike Bruce, Gene Caso, Rick Flaherty, Kimberly Perry, Rachel DeLise, and Paul Leet.

Through the efforts of the Board and members, we continue to spread the love of this sport to more than 200 members—and growing. As a non-profit, and as we promised the County Commissioners, we regularly offer a variety of events and use the proceeds to enhance the county recreation facility and/or make donations to local charities.

We look forward to welcoming all players from near and far to come play with us and check out our beautiful new outdoor courts.

Our Impact

February 14, 2024, in celebration of Heart Health Month, we held our annual Dink Your Heart Out Round Robin. This special event not only showcased our dinking skills but also highlighted the importance of heart health. Recognizing the significance of quick access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in emergencies, we used the registration donations to provide two AEDs to Emergency Services.
